The Houndstooth Press Chapter Spotlight: Psi Chapter of Chi Omega
As the founding chapter of Chi Omega, the Psi chapter is the true beginnings of Chi Omega and its entirety. The Psi chapter started the Chi Omega legacy in Fayetteville, Arkansas on April 5, 1985 at the University of Arkansas. This chapter has done incredible things as the mothership of Chi Omega fraternity and continues to thrive every year.
In August of 2016 they participated in Panhellenic recruitment along with 11 other chapters. Panhellenic bid day was held in the Chi Omega Greek Theatre which the Psi chapter donated to the university. They welcomed home 129 new members to newly renovated, 940 West Maple Street. The day was spent at their new house with sisters, alumni, and the new hooties with the theme of “New Bids on the Block.”
Chi Omega’s national philanthropy efforts go to Make A Wish Foundation. The Psi chapter supports them with multiple events they hold per year. They hold events where their profits get to directly help local children “Make a Wish.” Some of these events include dinners at their house for other razorbacks to enjoy, such as “Chillin n Wishin,” and percentage nights at restaurants like a local favorite, Tacos for Life. You can catch them selling donuts outside the union benefiting Make A Wish as well. They also have their annual One Day One Goal, where they raise over $30,000 for their philanthropy in one day. The Psi chapter is an exceptional leader in their philanthropic efforts.
The Psi chapter’s social life is a busy one. In the fall they have their yearly date functions called Yippee Chi O, and Tacky Christmas. They get to wear their cutest western outfits and the best tacky sweaters they can find, and take a cute date. In the spring they have their annual formals of their semi-formal, “Chi O Crush,” followed by their formal in May.
The Psi chapter is doing an outstanding job at the University of Arkansas. As the founding chapter they are upholding the values that were created by women in the same chapter years before them. They are graceful and exceptional in every way. We love keeping up with the Psi chapter!
