Alumnae Spotlight: Jamie Tomalin

Meet Jamie Tomalin!

Jamie was a member of the Theta Omicron chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha at Baylor University in the 1989 pledge class. She graduated with her Bachelors degree in accounting and is now the Executive Director of Finance for Rockwall Independent School District outside of Dallas, Texas! You go, girl!

She grew up in Rockwall, Texas, which is only about an hour and a half away from Baylor University in Waco. She chose Baylor because of its beautiful campus, and she knew she wouldn’t be too far from home! Jamie and her roommate, Kim, both pledged Zeta in the spring of 1989. She remembers that living in a dorm was hard because it was so tiny and she missed her personal space, but she and her roommate learned how to be tidy and live in a small space together! (We feel you, girl)

Baylor doesn’t have houses for sororities and fraternities so everyone would meet up in chapter rooms on campus for meetings and for rush. For some events, they would all meet at restaraunts because.... well... food?!

Some of her favorite memories from her time as a Zeta come from the functions and mixers they would have with other sororities and fraternities on campus. She says she remembers dressing up for a costume function and dressing as a member of the Mickey Mouse Club (shout out to Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling and Justin Timberlake for getting their careers started on this show)!! She wore a white T-Shirt with “Jamie” iron on letters, Mickey Mouse ears, and penny loafers just like characters on the show. How cute is that?!

She keeps up with her pledge sisters on Facebook and loves meeting up with them for margaritas a few times a year. They all still have their “pledge jerseys” and love how girls in college still wear big t-shirts and leggings like they did back in the ‘80s. Some things never change!

Her favorite thing about being a Zeta was meeting people and finding her "crew" that she could always hang out with at functions and mixers. Her favorite thing about being a Zeta now is that she gets to share the same traditions and legacies with her daughter, Abbie, who is a Zeta Tau Alpha at the University of Arkansas! She loves going to Mom's Day events with her daughter and tailgating at Arkansas football games, since they didn't have those at Baylor!

Jamie is a total rock star and we hope that we all can be as great as her! Go Zeta, Go Jamie!
