Okay, people… spring break is over.
I know that’s not what you wanted to hear, but here we are, reminiscing on pictures from some beach somewhere. Spring break is the academic world’s most hated tease. During Thanksgiving break you get endless amounts of food, and you know that winter break is right around the corner. When winter break comes you get gifts, and by the end of break you are more than ready to get back to school. But not spring break. When spring break comes you go somewhere beautiful and dip your toes in an ocean or ski some slopes, but when it’s over… you’re just not ready. Well, we’re here to get rid of your post spring break blues. Here is a list of things that are worth reminding you of, some of which happened while you were away.
We’ll start off with some small (but relevant) luxuries…
Our interns just figured out that every Tuesday night you can go to Chick-Fil-A in Fayetteville and get a chicken sandwich, large fry, and large drink for $4.00 as a student special. This may be old news to some of you… but it’s new news to us, so we’re including it on this list.
Netflix released the new movies/TV series that are being added in April. Our personal favorite addition to streaming is the 1984 film, “Gremlins.”
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air cast had a reunion that went just as well as you would imagine it did.
March Madness. I’m sure this brought joy to many of you… unless you lost all of your money betting on NBA stars you’ve never met.
And then there are things that put a smile on your face because they remind you that life is beautiful and people can be amazing…
One of our interns, Piper, met an Irish woman on spring break by the name of Sandie. Sandie shared her Irish culture with Piper as they laughed and took pictures in a bar in Colorado. Piper said that Sandie really opened her eyes and reminded her that it’s important to soak up the world when you’re young. Never be too shy to make new friends in a bar.
According to The Huffington Post, an 81-year-old architect wants to turn old subway cars into housing for the homeless. Incredible, right?
Chance the Rapper recently announced that he will be donating $1,000,000 to Chicago public schools. So yeah, that’s just one more reason to love him in case you didn’t love him enough already.
There is a veteran by the name of Ernesto Rodriquez who is currently walking across America (from Tennessee to LA) to raise awareness for the 22 veterans who commit suicide every day. Ernesto is documenting his journey and using the hashtag #Forthe22.
Another one of our interns, Brianna, discovered a man who lived under a bridge in Yucatan who used all of his resources to take care of the stray dogs in the area, all of which had their own collars, water bowls, and food.
A tattoo artist in New Zealand said he would give a bunch of kiddos at a local children’s hospital custom (temporary) tattoos if he got 50 likes on his post… he got 433,000 likes (you should look this one up, folks… the pictures are wonderful).
We recently heard a story about a woman who was trying to carry her child, a heavy package, her purse, and a diaper bag into her local post office. After a few individuals watched her struggle, a man who appeared to have cerebral palsy quickly went out of his way to open the door for her and asked her if he could assist her with anything else.
Even though you don’t want to be in class (or at work) right now, you have to admit… it makes it much easier to function when you realize that our world is filled with good things. Good is what makes the world go ‘round! So how about we all make a pact to do a little more of good these days than bad?
